MTHFR and Migraines

Today, while surfing the web for MTHFR information, I noticed that there have been a few studies with regards to a potential connection between MTHFR mutations and headaches. Prior to pregnancy, my wife often had severe headaches. I am curious as to whether any of you with the MTHFR mutation might have suffered the same. I am assuming that if there is indeed a connection between one's homocystine levels and migraines that a folic acid supplement might actually treat the headaches better than aspirin or Tylonal. Any thoughts?

by the way... I also have a history of severe, migraine-like headaches... was never really sure if they were migraines or not, but some of them were severe enough to make me have to go to bed all day... but you are the first to mention the connection, so I can't offer you any info... I will let you know if I see anything though.

i just found out i have two mutations, though they are not sure yet if they are both on one chrom or both. i had two miscarriages both around 6 weeks. and yes. i have suffered debilitating migraines pretty much my whole life. interesting connection. high homocyst.. levels cause inflamation so i guess that would be the reason.

I have just been diagnosed with MTHFR one copy after two miscarriages this year. I am currently pregnant again (8 weeks). When they did my bloodwork they also mentioned that the PTT-LA (Lupus Anticoagulant) was too high and is now being linked to migraines. I am 25 and have had severe migraines since high school.

I have just been with MTHFR after 3 miscarriages and the doctor also mentioned Lupus Anticoagulant and she started me on floic acid and baby asprin. I have had severe headaches since my second miscarriage in 2004.

My daughter has had a migraine headache 24/7 for the last 12 months. She has MTHFR C677t homozygous with elevated homocysteine levels.

My wifes best friend is an MD and she swears there is a connection between MTHFR and Migranes, however she believes that Folic Acid make it worse. I found a group of supplements that have enabled me to get off the migrane medicine the nerologist has given me, they are B2(riboflavin), COQ10, Butterburr, Feverfew, 5HTP. I have been on them for a month and i have had way fewer migranes, infact, next to none, only two when i didn't stay away from my triggers.
